Arundel Cathedral Choir is a mixed voice voluntary choir offering membership after audition to adults and children who sing the Cathedral’s main services on a weekly basis. Their repertoire is varied and encompasses a wide variety of styles and periods reflecting the changing musical needs of the Roman Catholic Church. The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and through this is able to offer training opportunities to singers of all ages through the Voice for Life programmes and the Chichester Diocesan Awards Scheme, which offers examinations to singers under the age of 18. The choir regularly takes part in choir festivals, ecumenical services, Civic and Diocesan events and other additional musical performances.

The choir regularly undertake additional engagements and this year have been invited to sing at Westminster Cathedral. In May 2006 they sang at Guildford Cathedral as part of the RSCM Celebration Day. In 2004 they toured to Canterbury Cathedral for a week, singing services during the choir's vacation and in 2007 will tour to Rome for a week, singing at some of the city's principal basilicas.
Their first CD, The Secret of Christ, features varied pieces in the choir's repertoire and is available from the Cathedral shop and other outlets. Their second disc, A Chorister's Year, features music for the church's year and is also available from the Cathedral shop.

The junior choir (from age 7) rehearses each Tuesday from 6.45-8pm. Membership is on a competitive basis after audition and voice tests, often conducted in schools. There are no pre-requisites for joining but it is an advantage if a child is already learning an instrument. Following our appearance on Meridian Television we are still on the lookout for boys who enjoy singing to come and join us!

The adult choir rehearses each Wednesday from 7-8.30pm and is always keen to recruit new members. Repertoire is varied and ranges from Palestrina to Poulenc! The choir’s main office is High Mass each Sunday at 11.15am.

If you enjoy singing, would like to know more about either choir with a view to membership or would like any other details, please contact Elizabeth via the Cathedral on 01903 882297 or email elizabethstratford@msn.com .
