LATE SUMMER 2010 PARISH FAMILY BARBECUE

In light of the recently published schedule of Pope Benedict's visit to the UK it has been decided to cancel our Parish BBQ which was planned for 19 September.

We cannot commit to an alternative date and quite clearly attendance at the Papal event on 19 September will take precedence for those able to make the journey.

ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S CHOIR

Elizabeth Stratford and the choir are taking a break on Sunday 24th October. A visiting choir will be singing Mass at the 11.15am service.

Which choir is it?
St. Bartholomew’s Choir from Rainhill.

Where is that?
On the outskirts of Liverpool. It’s where Stephenson’s Rocket had its trials.

Why are they in Arundel?
They are on tour. The choir has a tour every 2 years. Normally they travel abroad for their tours. They have visited Rome, Switzerland and Germany (twice) but this year they decided to stay “at home”. They will be based in Arundel, and in addition to singing at the morning service they are singing a Recital at 6.30pm the same evening in the Cathedral. They would really appreciate an audience to attend their evening recital and welcome all to attend. There will be a voluntary retiring collection at the close of the recital.

Who will play the organ if Pat is away?
John Walton, who is a professional organist, will be playing. Peter Kwater who is the Director of Music at Rainhill normally plays the organ for their services but he will be directing the singing.

Are they singing at any other venues during the week?
On Tuesday the choir will sing a lunchtime concert at Boxgrove Priory and then move to English Martyrs at Goring-by-sea for Mass at 7.30pm.

If you wish to learn more about the choir visit their website at www.stbartschoir.com.

The Parish Proclaimer for October will contain more detail and a photograph of the choir.
